Spellings.

Practice writing spelling words.

We all hated the spelling tests at school didn’t we! I work with a lot of children who struggle with reading and writing, and I have a routine I do with them weekly to help them learn new spelling words. First, I will set them 6 new words that I know they struggle to spell, and I will write these on my whiteboard and on this Look, Cover, Write, Check Sheet. However, before they use this sheet to start practicing, I ask them to write me a sentence of their choice for each spelling word. This helps them get familiar with what the words mean, as well as the context they would be used. Once they have practiced with this sheet, I will then test them and see which ones they have learnt. Any they get wrong will be carried over to next week’s spellings list.

Make sure you reward them with stickers after and tick all the correct words, I like to do 2 stickers for 6/6 and 1 if they get less than that.
